Hawaiian Kona Coffee is grown in the Hualalai and Mauna Loa areas of Hawaii. Kona coffee is one of the most expensive coffees in the world. In much the same way Champagne is made with grapes exclusively from the Champagne region of France, only coffee from the Kona Districts of Hawaii can be called “Kona”.
The History of Hawaiian Kona Coffee
Coffee plant was introduced to the Kona district in 1828 by Samuel Reverend Ruggles from Brazil. English merchant Henry Greenwell established Kona coffee as a recognized variety of the coffee several years later.
There are about 800 Kona coffee farms currently growing Kona coffee.
Kona Coffee Blends
Because of the rarity and price of Kona coffee, some retailers sell “Kona Blends”. These are not a combination of different Kona coffees, but a blend of Kona and Colombian, Brazilian, or other foreign coffees. At Hazz Coffee, we sell 100% pure Kona coffee.
